Carry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham

This is a biography, yes a biography, of a real New England sailor and it’s a beautiful read! Nathaniel Bowditch is a son of a New England family with too many children to care for and feed. Thus begins Nathaniel’s journey to become one of the greatest seaman ever. In spite of a challenging beginning in life, Nat’s sheer mathematical brilliance sets the stage for many maritime discoveries that change naval navigation forever.

Every young boy who has ever felt inadequate should read this book or have it read to him. This book is brilliantly written.
